The most haunted fraternities and sororities in the US
Fraternity and sorority houses have a rich history and, in some cases, have been around for hundreds of years. For this reason, it comes as no surprise that some houses come with some unwanted visitors from the past. Here is our list of some of the most famous haunted fraternities and sororities in the US.
Pi Beta Phi, Kansas State University
Things got a little weird at the Pi Beta Phi house at Kansas State University after a sister named Polly got electrocuted while drying her hair with a hairdryer in the 1960s. After Lambda Chi Alpha took over the house in the 90s, the sisters reported that doors would slam and the lights would turn on and off at random. The sisters of Lambda Chi Alpha believed it was Polly's ghost behind all of the mysterious occurrences - clearly, she had come back to protest Lambda Chi Alpha's takeover of the house.
Alpha Sigma Phi, Slippery Rock University
When the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity moved into an off-campus house, they found themselves with an unwanted roommate whom they named Ted. According to the brothers, Ted would make unexpected sounds and throw random objects. At night, they reported hearing footsteps in the hallways (despite nobody being there) and would experience frequent, unexplained short circuits. Things got even spookier when heavy wooden paddles started falling off the walls.
Sigma Phi Epsilon, Marshall University
The Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house in West Virginia is said to be the home of Gail the ghost and her two children who were supposedly killed in a fire that occurred where the basement of the house is now located. While Gail can constantly be heard sobbing and wailing from the basement, the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon have reportedly embraced her presence and see her as a motherly figure in the house.
Alpha Delta Pi, Zeta Theta Chapter, Illinois State University
Ever seen a haunted photobomb? The picture below from a previous bid day at Zeta Theta has circulated the internet for years after a ghost was mysteriously spotted in the window. Apparently, the ghost's appearance in the picture came as no surprise to the sisters for Zeta Theta who said they knew that a ghost resided in the house and that they even named her Linda. It is said that she lives in room four but has been reported to visit other rooms in the house as well. Once, a sister woke up in the middle of the night staring at herself in the mirror after being haunted by Linda in her sleep.
